The History of Jordan Automotive Group

1949 - Jordan H. Kapson establishes Jordan Motors, Inc., as a Dodge dealership in a two-story building on 1-1/2 acres of land with showroom capacity for three cars.

1957 - Jordan Motors, Inc. is expanded to include Triumph, Jaguar, and Rambler franchises.

1960 - Jordan Motors, Inc. relinquishes four existing lines to become a FORD dealer, exclusively.

1972 - Jordan's son, Craig Kapson, joins the dealership. An Olivet College graduate, with extensive sales training at a large Ford truck operation on the east coast, as well as training at several Ford marketing institutes, Craig began to learn the daily management aspects of a large franchise operation.

1974 - Jordan Motors, Inc. receives its first Distinguished Achievement Award from Ford Motor Company, symbolizing an outstanding effort in every merchandising area. Jordan Motors, Inc., has continued to receive this award every year since.

1978 - After seven years of planning and hard work, Jordan Motors, Inc., moves into a new facility. With 40 acres of land (five of which are covered), eighteen new vehicles are now displayed in the New Car Showroom. The Parts Department is now one of the largest in the State of Indiana. The Service Department now has an enclosed customer write-up area and separate customer waiting room, away from the gas and fumes. There is a separate Truck Service Department and a Body Shop, both of which have been remodeled and improved to offer the best possible service to our customers.

1981 - Jordan Toyota is established on the north side of Jefferson Boulevard with an eight-car showroom. Craig A. Kapson becomes dealer principal of this franchise, as well as being President of the Ford operation.

1986 - Jordan Imports, Inc. is formed with Volvo being a new franchise. The Jordan Group is further expanded with the addition of the Lincoln-Mercury franchises in Elkhart, Indiana. Mr. Phil Novell, General Sales Manager, Ford Motor Company, announced that Jordan Ford is Ford Motor Company's #1 volume car and truck dealer in the nation.

1988 - The new Toyota and Volvo Parts & Service facility (amounting to 15,000 square feet) was opened in October. This became in addition to our Ford Service division. The New Car Prep Department moved to a larger facility, with a total of 6,000 square feet. This enables us to prep about 80 vehicles per day for delivery.

1989 - The Jordan Group added the Mitsubishi franchise.

1990 - Jordan Ford again named the #1 volume dealer in the United States.  Craig Kapson is named "DEALER OF THE YEAR" by the Automotive News.

1991 - Jordan Lincoln-Mercury received the Quality Commitment Award from Lincoln-Mercury.

1991-2006 - Jordan Ford named the largest Ford dealer in total sales volume for Ford Motor Co. with a national fleet business.

1993 - Jordan Ford recognized as the #1 fleet dealer for the year, which total volume of 101,495 units, and inclusion in the Top 100 Club.

1994 - Jordan Ford again recognized as the #1 fleet dealer in the nation for the 1994 model year, with 96,486 total units sold, and inclusion in the Top 100 Club.

2001 - Jordan Toyota becomes the national customer satisfaction test dealer for Toyota Motor Sales USA’s introduction of Toyota’s Signature Certification Program for dealers across the nation.

2003 - Jordan acquires the Scion franchise.

2005 - The Jordan Automotive Group introduces a revolutionary new selling philosophy: The Jordan Way, to the Michiana community.

2007-2010 - Jordan Toyota awarded the Toyota President’s Award. Toyota Motor Sales recognizes its finest dealerships with the prestigious President's Award. It's the highest honor a dealership can receive from Toyota, and is only awarded to those dealerships who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence.

2011 - Jordan Ford again recognized as the top overall volume fleet dealer in the nation for the 2010 model year and inclusion in the Top 100 Club again in 2010.

2011 - Jordan Ford celebrates its 50th anniversary in business on Sept. 22, while Jordan Toyota celebrates 30 years in business.
